Here's a sample tour itinerary that covers some of Sri Lanka's most fascinating destinations

Day 1: Arrival in Colombo → Sigiriya

Day 2: Sigiriya → Polonnaruwa → Habarana

Highlights:

• Morning:
  After breakfast, head towards Polonnaruwa, the ancient medieval capital of Sri Lanka (about 1.5 hours from Sigiriya). Explore the Sacred Quadrangle, Gal Vihara (rock-carved Buddha statues), and the Royal Palace. Learn about the city’s history at the Polonnaruwa Archaeological Museum.

• Afternoon:
  Drive to Habarana, about a 30-minute drive from Polonnaruwa. In Habarana, embark on an exciting wildlife safari in Minneriya National Park (famous for the Elephant Gathering) or Kaudulla National Park, where you’ll have the chance to see herds of wild elephants, as well as other wildlife such as deer, water buffalo, and a variety of bird species.

• Evening:
  Return to your hotel for a relaxing evening and dinner.

• Morning:
  Arrive at Bandaranaike International Airport in Colombo. Meet your guide and drive towards Sigiriya, which takes approximately 4-5 hours by road (approximately 150 km).
  En route, stop at Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage, where you can see elephants being fed and bathed in the river (optional).

• Afternoon:
  Arrive in Sigiriya and check into your hotel.
  After checking in, visit Sigiriya Rock Fortress, one of Sri Lanka’s UNESCO World Heritage Sites. This ancient royal citadel is famous for its frescoes, the Lion’s Gate, and panoramic views from the top.

• Evening:

You’ll have the chance to learn about Sri Lanka’s religious history while observing rituals and ceremonies.

• Afternoon:
  Take a relaxing stroll around Kandy Lake, or visit the Kandy Viewpoint for a stunning panoramic view of the city and surrounding mountains.
  Explore the Royal Botanical Gardens in Peradeniya, a beautifully maintained garden with a vast collection of plant species, including orchids and medicinal plants.

• Evening:
  In the evening, enjoy a Kandyan cultural dance show to experience traditional Sri Lankan dance and music, followed by dinner at your hotel.

Day 4: Kandy → Nuwara Eliya

  After breakfast, depart for Nuwara Eliya (around 2.5-3 hours by road). Known as "Little England," this hill station is famous for its cool climate, colonial architecture, and tea plantations. Stop at Ramboda Falls on the way, a beautiful waterfall situated amidst lush tea estates.

• Afternoon:
  Visit a tea plantation and factory to learn about the process of making Ceylon tea and enjoy a tasting session of freshly brewed tea.
